Caravanning might seem like the perfect family holiday – it’s a chance to get out into the great outdoors, and gives you ample time spent with your loved ones. That is, until, it all starts to go pear-shaped. The children get bored, the weather isn’t in your favour and you spend too much time driving and not enough time relaxing. Don’t let poor planning ruin the perfect caravanning holiday with your loved ones. We’ve come up with some great tips to ensure that the next time you go away, you make it a trip to remember - for all the right reasons.

Don’t try to do too much

Remember when planning your camping and caravanning itinerary that less is often more. Try not to cram too much into your itinerary each day and don’t panic if things don’t go the way you planned. You are travelling with children, after all! Plan little trips here and there, but don’t organise something too ambitious, like a drive across Australia in one week.

Relax in one place for awhile

One of the great elements to caravanning is that you can set up a comfortable camping space and relax for awhile. Make sure you spend a few nights in each place you visit so your children have a chance to make friends in the campground and so you don’t spend too much time packing up and setting up. This can make for grumpy children!

Make sure the kids are entertained

If the kids get bored, they can get grouchy. Take along a TV in your caravan and keep the children entertained when it’s raining outside. Or set up an outdoor picnic table and get the kids working on some colouring-in.

Choose smart places to stay

When booking your campgrounds ahead of time, look for places that are child friendly. Many campgrounds have activities for children and pools for them to swim in. The more options your kids have to go out and play, the happier they will be.

Enhance your caravan with accessories

Make sure you are prepared for the ultimate family holiday by kitting out your caravan with all the accessories you need before you go. The better prepared you are, the more enjoyable your holiday will be - trust us!
